Quite often when children learn scales they have difficulty with fingering, especially when playing hands together.

Updated for the new exam syllabi, this innovative system concentrates on the particular fingers that play simultaneously in each hand; providing anchor points to improve coordination and speed up the learning process.

Using just five scale and four arpeggio patterns throughout, memorising is quick, easy, and secure, and correct fingering is guaranteed every time!

Even if you don’t read music notation this illustrated method works perfectly: keyboard and stave illustrations give greater clarity for both readers and non-readers alike, covering every major and minor key. Book 1 begins with those scales required for Grades 1 and 2; Book 2 covers the scales for Grades 3 and 4; Book 3 covers Grade 5 and then revisits ALL previously learnt scales.

    Scales and Arpeggios

Posted by Ingrid on 16th Jan 2022

I have been teaching piano for over 14 years in the UK, and this is the only decent scale book I have discovered. In fact, during the pandemic lockdowns, I started to create my own scale book, using a similar format, but I can happily stop, now that I have found this one! It includes very important theory information, hitherto not found in other books, such as clear explanations of the Circle of Fifths, and the tone structures of major and minor scales. The diagrams of the scales and arps on the keyboard is brilliant for recognising and internalising the finger patterns. I cannot recommend this book enough, and I have asked every one of my (45) pupils (adults and children) to purchase one forthwith!
