Learning to tickle the ivories
Children as young as four are learning the piano at Shortwood Infants School in Staines thanks to a pioneering new teaching method.
EIza Lusher, a pianist from Egham, is using her ‘Dogs and Birds’ method to teach the children how to read music.
The method uses monosyllabic animal names to represent the notes, and encourages children to sing as they play.
Mrs Lusher, who hails from Hungary and trained at the famous Liszt academy, said:
“When I was growing up in Hungary all children had the opportunity to learn the piano for free.
“I would like to give at least some children the same opportunity to study music that I had, which is why I’m giving these lessons in the school.”
She will be giving the free lessons weekly at the school in Stanwell New Road.
